The Red Door Inn

Fallible people, tension, curiosity, romance, faith: all these things combined made for a thoroughly satisfying read of Liz Johnson's new novel The Red Door Inn.

We first meet Marie as she's sitting in the ferry terminal, contemplating her lack of money, lack of food, lack of family understanding...lack. Her life at the moment is in her backpack.

She is befriended by a widower, Jack, who offers her a temporary home and a job while he tries to ready The Red Door Inn on Prince Edward Island for a timely opening.

The third person we are introduced to is Seth, Jack's nephew. His construction expertise is coming in handy for the renovations of the inn.

The more I read the more I wanted these questions answered: What was behind Marie's panic attacks? Why was Jack so intent on the inn, when it really wasn't his forte? Why was Seth so negative towards his uncle befriending Marie?

They are hurting people, each trying to overcome heart-wrenching events and hesitant to let others too close.  Little by little, the reader is led to understand the emotional baggage each carries. We are shown, as they are, that opening up to and putting the needs of others ahead of our own brings healing and hope.

Take a lazy day and visit The Red Door Inn. You'll be glad you did.

I was honored to be able to read an advance copy of The Red Door Inn in exchange for my honest review. I'm looking forward to the next book in The Prince Edward Island series, Where Two Hearts Meet, from this talented author.
The Red Door Inn is available in both paperback and e-book form from these retailers:
